Rose Cupcake Bouquet

Roses are fine, but the real way to my heart is with good food, so I’d rather have this bouquet of cupcake roses any day. If you’ve never piped icing flowers onto cupcakes before, don’t worry. When you have the right piping tip, it does all the work for you. In this case, I used a Wilton 2D piping tip. It made me look like a pro. Another thing I tried with these roses was a two-toned effect combining a soft pink and a deep pink. I did that by putting a little bit of the darker shade around the sides of the piping bag and filling the middle with the lighter pink icing. DIY Love Dice for Valentine’s Day made with Craft Attitude

Love can be dicey – so why not spice things up for Valentine’s Day with some love dice? The sides of one die have actions like “kiss” and “tickle.” The sides of the other die have body parts like “cheek” and “lips.” (I tried to be PG-rated here, folks.) These are really easy to make yourself. All you need are some wood cubes (which I found at Joann), a glue stick or spray adhesive, and some Craft Attitude printable film. Here is the free printable I made up with the words for each of the dice. They have been sized to 1 1/4″, which is the size of the blocks I bought.

These are the blocks I bought at Joann. They are from Darice, and come in three in a pack for $2.29.

I printed the designs on one sheet of Craft Attitude film, and then cut them into individual squares to fit on the blocks.

Then I applied a glue stick to the wood, and placed the Craft Attitude film ink side down on the glued surface. (That’s why it’s important to print in reverse.) I find it easier to place the Craft Attitude film on the surface with the backing still on it. Then when it’s where I want, I peel off the backing.

And just like that, something fun for Valentine’s Day. So roll the dice. Do you feel lucky?

Vintage Soda Crate Valentine Arrangement

Growing up working in a Chinese restaurant, we served Cokes and other sodas that were in old fashioned bottles and came in wood crates. Who knew that many years later, those wood crates would be called “vintage,” and I would be making floral arrangements with them. The 24 compartments of the crates are perfect for creating a modular arrangement, with something different in each compartment – succulents, cut flowers, even candles. I also made seed packet topiaries that spelled out “LOVE,” using EZ-De’s alphabet stamps from KellyCraft, designed by Ann Butler. For the step by step slideshow tutorial on eHow, click here.

Hinged Frame Box Part 2: Valentines Edition

The hinged box I made out of two stretched canvases was such a success, I decided to make another one for Valentine’s Day. This is the “Puppy Love” box. Once again, both the fronts and backs of the canvases were decorated with Craft Attitude printable film. So really, in minutes the canvases were transformed. I bought some stock photos from bigstockphoto.com for the general valentine’s imagery like the candy hearts, and then photoshopped the sayings on them. And those are photos of my dogs Fosse and Gershwin, who just love each other. See the last post for detailed DIY instructions.

I love how the backs of the frame create a shadow box for Fosse (left) and Gershwin (right) to sit in.

Notice how the wood grain shows through the Craft Attitude film. Love that.
