Here’s an idea that takes paintings to a whole new dimension. It’s a 3D painting with live, fresh peonies literally coming out of the artwork. I’ve combined my love for painting with my love for flowers, and I can’t get over how it turned out.
I started by painting an arrangement of flowers in a vase on an 11×14 canvas. The depth of the canvas was 2 inches so it could stand on its own.
With a hobby knife, I made a few small incisions on the canvas.
I inserted stems of peonies through the incisions.
And the stems met behind the painting in a glass of water.
The blooms actually opened while in the canvas, and the painting became a living piece of art. I love how the painted flowers blend with the real ones. You can really see the 3D effect in the side angles.
I hope this inspires you to think outside the box, I mean frame.
