Mushroom Party Decor
This year, I have had the pleasure of designing events for the wonderful catering company Amy’s Culinary Adventures. These photos are for The Mushroom Experience, a five course mushroom-themed dinner extravaganza. Mushrooms are such a whimsical little fungus, aren’t they? They’re like nature’s little parasols. You half expect to see a gnome, or at least Alice in Wonderland, lurking close by.

For each table setting, I made individual origami mushrooms. I learned how to make them on YouTube. (Just search “origami mushroom.) I did customize them, putting in a floralyte that changed colors throughout the evening, so these mushrooms really were psychedelic. I also used scrapbook paper that was printed with an image of grass for the placemats.

They looked great all in a row, interspersed with some actual wheatgrass. Having all the mushrooms white also made them more elegant.

Those of you who have my “Parties that Wow” book know I love to hang things. Here, I made small mushrooms with butcher paper and put them in these cool glass spheres from CB2.com. |
These little mushroom terrariums floated above the guests heads. There is also a floralyte in each of them to illuminate the gathering. |
