Mediterranean Dinner Decor and Centerpieces
It was a warm, balmy summer evening, and the catering company Amy’s Culinary Adventures hosted a Mediterranean-themed dinner for 50 lucky guests. I decided to style the dinner with absolutely no geographical or cultural accuracy, transporting the guests on a journey to Greece and Morocco via the San Fernando Valley.

The evening was “intense.” Or actually, under the tents. I created a canopy by pushing steel rebars from Home Depot into the lawn, and then draping fabric over the rebars. The fabric is held on the rebars with rubber bands!

For centerpieces, I went for drama with pampas grass spread out like peacock feathers.

The pampas grass looks so royal, like something you would use to fan the sultan with. And lined up across the long table, they really make a strong visual impact. Interspersed with these pampas grass centerpieces were accoutrements like lanterns, fruit, and more colorful fabric. It’s so “I Dreamed of Jeanie.” (Again, I wasn’t going for cultural or historical accuracy here.)
