Sewing-Themed Mini Christmas Tree

Every year, I decorate mini Christmas trees for an organization called JoyCatchers, which donates mini holiday trees to seniors, veterans and hospice patients. I actually buy over a hundred mini trees a year myself to give to the organization, thanks to sales at Michaels and the website Consumer Crafts. As if decorating trees for JoyCatchers this past weekend wasn’t enough, when I got back to my studio I decided to decorate a mini Christmas tree for myself. I gave it a sewing theme, not because I have such mad skills at sewing, but because I had a lot of these supplies hanging around in my studio.sewing_christmas_tree

A sewing tape measure made the perfect ribbon for decorating.sewing_tree1

I have a ton of wooden spools. For the ones that did not have thread, I spooled some yard around them. I then glue gunned these to the tree.sewing_tree2

I had some large buttons from Blumenthal Lansing that made cute decorations.sewing_tree3

Bobbins added some sparkle.sewing_tree4

And my tree topper was a pin cushion and pins sticking out like a starburst. It’s very midcentury, no?sewing_tree5
